Irish Cob, Gypsy Cob, Gypsy Horse, Tinker, Gypsy Vanner, Irish Tinker og Tinker Cob are some of names used for this beatyfull horse. The irish gypsys bought piebald/skewbald horses, those horses weren't wanted so they were cheap and had a very nice temper. Their coulours made them easy to rekognice in the dark, this avoided accidents and the gypsys could identify their horses by the colours. When England decided that the irish people were no longer alowed to own horses that would cost more than 5 pounds, the gypsys still kept their horses, they were useless in war. The animy would to easy discover those horses because of their colours.
Through many years in the night the gypsys were breeding their mares to the stallions (such as Shire, Clydesdale, Welsh Cob) owned by the squires, and one day they had bred what we know as an Irish Cob.
In Ireland they did not have a studbook for those horses and suddenly the irish cob were about to disappear from their homecountry. In 1996 some people decided to make an association including a studbook known as The Irish Cob Society. A lot of countries have been joining them and today The Irish Cob is being registrated all over the world. They have become so popular that the USA among other countries are buying the horses directly from the gypsys and it can be very difficult finding well bred horses enough for all the people wanting to buy, because of the price they often would have to pay.
